So... The Continental is essentially the new MKS

Kinja'd!!!

And that’s not a bad thing, this means that if they play their cards right and differentiate the two where it counts, and in this case it’s the interior. and if I was a reasonably wealthy businessman I would pick the Continental...If the Taurus still play’s the part of the reasonably priced family car.

Kinja'd!!!

I am excited, this is the return of the Taurus and Continental Pairing. And that worked on the 90’s. Let’s just see what Lincoln has in store for us. My speculation is that Lincoln will have to start with the top of the line options offered on the Taurus, meaning a 50 grand starting price. This is now Lexus and Audi territory. I think I already predicted this in another post if the Taurus is starting in the 26 grand bracket this could work.

Could this be the return of the Panther?

A rebadged Taurus is exactly what the continental couldnt be. The Lexus ES is able to get away with rebadging since the Lexus brand has value (largely due to the LS). Lincoln must have a 21st century equivalent to the LS in order to become a major player.

Maybe it’s coming ? Who know’s maybe next year Ford will roll out a Mustang based sedan for Lincoln. The thing is though it does not need to be Fullsize, just world class.

They could easily make a 5 series competitor and push the next gen Conti a size larger.

The Taurus based Conti was a flop. Everyone knew it was a Taurus/Sable in a fancy dress.

Even the Fox based Conti sedans were a bit of a failure.

there is a guy in Vienna that has two of those 99-2003 Conti’s.

Perfect condition.

Pretty sure the new Taurus is starting at 38K? I think it was always slightly “upscale” relative to other Fords so I dunno about the “reasonably priced family car” thing. Just my two cents.

Ford claims the Chinese Taurus, with its 4-inch longer wheelbase, is exclusive to that region. It would not surprise me, however, if that extended platform is used for the Continental over here.

That being said, Ford has to get away from glitter plastic, rough edges, and hard seats if it wants the Taurus to compete against the LaCrosse in China, let alone if it wants to build a successful Continental over here. I have very little confidence they will do this.

Are you sure that’s not the Chinese retail, Ford knowns that nobody in their right mind buys a Taurus for 48k.... I know.. I’ve owned one.

You may be right, I’m not an expert on Chinese car pricing. However considering the Continental is going to be based off the Taurus (that’s my guess, considering how similar the proportions and cues are), I think they might go upscale with this generation.

I have nothing against them. They just weren’t very popular.

Two door sedan, maybe just keep the Continental name and add GT?

I think their true reasonably priced family car is the Fusion which I just discovered isn't terrible any longer.

no then Bentley would really lose their minds, A two door Cruiser with a real name would be nice. maybe they could do a Mark 35 for the ecoboost engine and a Mark 50 for the Coyote.

MKIII, MKV ?

Would that be going to far with the classic naming scheme if they did that thought?

Lincoln Continental GT3, piss off as much of that side of the world as possible. Make it faster and handle better than a Porsche.

Not really, they already employ it, use it for the right reasons.

They could make the Performance models MK’s and the regular models have names.

That's either a vastly-redone current Taurus, new-platform Taurus (off the D4/Volvo S80 platform), or a stretched Fusion.

Key differentiators: Fuel door is on the left side. Windows and apparent hard-points seem different and more Fusion-like. Ditto the beltline.

The Fusion is a good place to start for the future Taurus and MKS.

I know Ford/Lincoln have already given details about the Continental Concept, but it neeeeeeeeds to be RWD with available AWD.

That’s just the Chinese market price, American pricing will be substantially less (assuming it’s sold here). Foreign brand cars are status symbols in China, so that sort of pricing is kind of expected by customers there.

I believe the new chassis was confirmed to have Fusion origins. A stretched fusion is very handsome and I would buy this over one.

Who knows this might replace my CV when I get out of school.
